From Salon Scissors To Paintbrushes: A Heartfelt Art Journey With A Sweet Twist
From Haircuts to Honey to Watercolor: A Full-Circle Friendship
Before I was a watercolor artist, I worked in a cozy little salon tucked away in a small Massachusetts town. One of my longtime clients was Scott, a cheerful, kind-hearted guy who always brought good conversation and a warm spirit to my chair. I looked forward to catching up with him during his appointments; we shared laughs, life updates, and that easy kind of friendship that grows over time.
One day, while I was giving Scott his monthly trim, another client of mine, Tom, unexpectedly popped in and placed a jar of honey on my work station. He and I had recently chatted about his new beekeeping hobby, he had brought me a jar from his harvest. It was a small act of kindness, but I remember it vividly.
A few years passed and life took me in a new direction. I had to leave Massachusetts and start fresh in another state. That final week at the salon was emotional, filled with hugs, goodbyes, and the last haircuts with so many people I had come to care about. On one of those last days, I walked up to the front desk after finishing a cut… and there was Scott, sitting in the waiting area. He wasn’t scheduled but had to stop in just to say goodbye.
We shared a heartfelt farewell and promise to keep in touch. At the time, he only knew me as a stylist, not yet as a watercolor artist. I hadn’t yet discovered my love for watercolor painting. As we wrapped up our goodbye, Scott handed me a little paper bag. Inside? A sweet little jar of honey. He remembered. After all those years, he remembered that moment in the salon with Tom and the honey jar…
Fast forward to today: I’m a full-time watercolor artist, and Scott and his lovely wife recently purchased my original paintings. The full-circle moment hit me hard-how life weaves connections in the most unexpected ways. From salon scissors to paintbrushes, from honey jars to heartfelt goodbyes, and now to art on his wall… it’s a reminder that the relationships we build truly stay with us.
Thank you, Scott, for remembering, for supporting me then and now, and for being part of my journey.
Hi Maya, the painting arrived Monday. We brought it up to the local art gallery/framing store a few hours later. You should have seen their faces when I pulled it out of the envelope. This older gentleman could not believe the realism of your work and the colors. I gave them some of your history and they couldn’t believe it. I guarantee they looked you up online as soon as we left.
We can’t wait to get it back. The wall space has already been identified. All our guests will have questions and I’ll tell them my “Honey” painted it. You are extremely talented and I am so happy to have one of your pieces. Thank you!!!
Hi Maya,
We got your painting back yesterday. We had it up on the wall within minutes of getting it home. I think it is beautiful! It is on a wall that is next to our table. It is the wall everyone first sees when they come into the house through the kitchen. Pictures to follow. Thanks again for such a beautiful piece!!!

I’ve always believed that art is more than just something to look at, it’s a bridge between hearts. I genuinely love connecting with people, sharing my story, and hopefully bringing them joy. That kind of connection is magical. It reminds me that we’re not so different from
one another.
Whether it’s a flower that reminds them of a loved one, or a bird that brings a sense of peace, those moments of shared meaning are the most rewarding part of what I do.
