Brushstrokes, Birthday, and a Whole Lot of Heart
I was so honored (and thrilled) to be invited to my sweet little protege’s 17th birthday lunch the night before. She’s not only and incredible help to me, but also a shining young woman with a heart of gold, and I’m always cheering her on any chance I get!
All night I tossed around ideas for a gift. Should I bring her some crystals, Maybe something to do with flowers, or cats, or dogs? The list was endless, she adores so many thins, and I just wanted i to be special. But after a whole evening of overthinking, I still hadn’t landed on the perfect gift. So…I went to bed, hoping inspiration would strike in the morning.
Morning comes, and still no idea!!The clock is ticking and I have to be at The Mont by 11 am. After a whole lot of hemming and hawing (and maybe some pacing), I suddenly decided, I’ll paint her favorite thing in the entire world! A quick watercolor, how long could it take?!
OMG, what was I thinking?!!! It’s 9:45 am! I grab my bushes and start flying through the painting. I’m in a full-on creative sprint, colors everywhere, trying to channel all my love and energy into a celebration for her into this one piece.
By 10:30 am, I look up and realize… it’s have haven’t even started the eyes on the painting! It’s wet, I still need it to dry, frame it, wrap it up, and then drive over to the place. My heart’s racing, I’m sweating, pretty sure it turned into an accidental cardio workout! hahahaha
But Somehow, miraculously, it all came together. And when she finally opened it after lunch, I knew it was worth every frantic second. Because when you love someone like that, you’ll always find a way to make the moment magical.
Here she is, Emily glowing with joy and holding her last-minute, made-with love watercolor gift. She got the kindest heart, and the brightest future, and I couldn’t be prouder to watch her grow into the beautiful soul she is. Moments like this, connection, joy, and celebrating those we love!
