My artistic journey began in an unexpected moment of stillness. On March 20, 2020, during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, I found myself at home, searching for a creative outlet beyond the routine of coffee, computer, and daily chores. While cleaning out the garage, I came across an old sketchbook titled How to Learn to Draw, and that’s where it all began.
At first, I sketched, but soon I wanted to add color. With no proper supplies, I used whatever I could find, dried-up watercolor paints, markers, and even chalk! As I experimented, I realized how much joy painting brought me. Around that time, I noticed neighborhood families taking daily walks, and I had an idea: I started placing a new painting in my front window each day. Seeing children stop, point, and delight in my work filled my heart, and their excitement inspired me to create more-especially vibrant, nature-inspired pieces featuring animals and bold colors.
What started as a way to bring joy during uncertain times has since grown into something I never imagined. Painting has become my passion, my peace, and my way of seeing the world with fresh eyes. Through my art, I hope to share that joy with others, whether through exhibitions, commissions, or the creative offerings of Maya’s Artbeat.
