Transform Your Space With Maya’s Watercolor Art
There’s something about Route 66 that always feels like stepping into a living story, the open road, the history, the timeless charm of Oklahoma’s most famous highway. A recent visit to one of my favorite stops along the route left me feeling so inspired that I couldn’t wait to come home and paint.
That trip sparked my newest watercolor, “Getting Our Kicks Since 1926!”, a joyful tribute to Route 66’s 100-year celebration and the spirit of adventure it represents.
At the heart of this 9×12 original watercolor is the Arcadia Round Barn, an Oklahoma treasure with a story all its own. Built in 1898 by William H. Odor using native wood designed to withstand Oklahoma’s fierce weather, the barn stood proudly decades before Route 66 was even established.
When the highway was aligned past it in the 1920s, it became one of the most beloved landmarks along the Mother Road, a perfect symbol of resilience, history, and roadside nostalgia.
I loved capturing the winding highway stretching into the horizon, soft sunset skies, vintage lettering, and that feeling of rolling down the windows and chasing the open road. Thank you for continuing to travel this creative journey with me. I’m so grateful to share Oklahoma’s stories through watercolor! With paint-covered hands & a happy heart, Maya
