Creativity That Leaves a Lasting Impression

Maya and I went to high school together and reconnected decades later through Facebook, just as a pandemic hobby was becoming her passion and eventually a business built around her God-given talent. In 2020, one of her paintings, a green truck filled with flowers, resonated with me so deeply that I chose LIVE for its personalized license plate, a word that captured what so many of us were longing for during such an uncertain time. In 2024, I asked Maya to recreate a deeply personal image of a little white church in winter, and after hearing the story behind it, she transformed that story into a painting I will forever treasure. This past June, we finally reconnected in person at our high school reunion, and it truly felt like a full-circle moment. Maya discovered an incredible gift during one of the darkest times in our country’s history, and through her art, she continues to help people preserve their stories, treasure what matters, and LIVE.

Maya is an incredibly gifted artist. I have trusted her to paint so many very personal things for me; most recently, a painting of my wedding bouquet! Her paintings adorn many walls of my house and always illicit a gasp of awe, when visitors see them!

I met Maya in a hospital gift shop and was thrilled when I discovered I already loved her artwork! She helped me understand the watercolor process and then beautifully created a commissioned trio of watercolors reminiscent of a special time in our family. She understands color and design, and was wonderful to work with! I’ve also given other pieces as gifts that delightfully stunned the recipients.

Maya's artwork captured me from the moment I saw it, especially her images of hummingbirds. Her vibrant and detailed watercolor paintings always bring a smile to my face, and it's hard to resist wanting to buy multiple prints at a time. I loved her work so much that I asked about it and found out she taught classes. I jumped right on that and have really enjoyed painting alongside her ever since. Her hands-on teaching style has helped me develop techniques unique to the medium, and I am constantly inspired by her intrinsic motivation to grow as an artist and help others do the same.

I had a few years of watercolor experience, but had forgotten so much that I needed a refresher and someone who was fun, energetic, and whose work I loved to get me back into watercolor. Maya had basically just started teaching herself when I joined. She really amazed me! Her paintings were so pretty, and I was drawn to the subjects she painted as well. I made new friends in her class, and just a funny note: the other ladies and I were the same age! I'm so glad I was able to continue my watercolor journey with her!
